Zaghouan Governorate , in north-eastern

, is one of the twenty-four governorates (provinces) of Tunisia and stretches over 2 , 768 km² . The governorate lies between the governorates of the Northeast , the northwest and the centre . It is bounded by the governorates of Ben Arous , Manouba and Ariana to the north , those of Sousse and Kairouan to the south and those of Siliana and Béja to the east . It has an estimated population of 161 , 000 (2004 census) . Its capital city , Zaghouan , is renowned for its graceful mild climate and it green scenery . The governorate's main activity is agriculture and industry . Among the important cities and towns enclosed within its boundaries are: El Fahs , Djebel Oust , Bir Mcherga , Nadhour , and Zriba .
