The capital of the
Zaghouan
Governorate , the city of Zaghouan lies in the northern half of Tunisia , on a low ridge of the Dorsale Mountains , at the foot of Jebel Zaghouan . The town is located around 100km due south of
Tunis
and around 50km inland (west) from the Gulf of Hammamet . It is renowned for its graceful mild climate and it green scenery . During the reign of the Roman emperor Hadrian , the city was administering one of the most important water resources for

since it supplied it with cold water via a 132km-long aqueduct . In our times , the city's springs continue to supply water to some public fountains elaborately decorated with tiles . Zaghouan city is also known for its gorgeous roses that were planted by Muslim refugees from Spain in the seventeenth century . The town has an estimated population of around 16 , 037 .
