Dating back to to the 5th century BC , the Magon Quarter is formed by a a few blocks and a group of vestiges in Septime Severe Street , near the sea coast in Carthage . It is visible south of the Antonine Baths . Covering three insulae , the quarter was outlined according to a regular plan and its establishment presents a continuous urban Roman occupation that goes back to ancient times . It is thought to be an area of the Punic residential artisans that turned into a small place that once housed the Roman workshops . History tells that the quarter was destroyed but the Roman kept the same cadastral orientation , replaced small houses by greater ones , and made many enlargments to the territory . The quarter was once protected by strong walls and reinforced with efficient equipmnts especially with a sea port . Water was supplied to the area through a number of wells and cisterns . The construction is now surrounded by a garden .
