History of Qabes

Qabes or Gabes is a city of a great history that date back to the Phoenician period when it was used as a harbor . Due to its location on the Qabes Gulf it was the first place to be destroyed by any invader of Tunisia since the Numadian invasion in 161 BC and then the Islamic conquest in the 7th Century until the French occupation in 1943 . After regaining Gebes , a huge process of reconstruction was held and this led to the great development in the city till now . Ras Ejder is one of the major regions in Gabes that encloses a large railway station , the nearest railway station to Libya and the major port in Tunisia that is usually used in shipping mineral products from Gafsa City .
