sanctuary of Neptune

The Sanctuary of Neptune in Dougga is a small rectangular building down off the plateau set near the road (now disappeared) that led to the Temple of Saturn. This means that the reconstructed apse south of the temple is all that remains of the sanctuary. To the right of the sanctuary appears a small Christian cemetery in which stands the Christian Basilica that dates back to the fifth c. AD.
