Zaouia of Sidi Ali Azouz

One of the religious landmarks in the city of Zaghaoun is the Zaouia (Zawiyya) of Sidi Ali Azouz which lies seductively in Sidi Ali Azouz Street, 10m down the hill from the arch. Dating back to the 19th century AD, the Zaouia is sometimes also referred to as a mosque and it was built in honor of a patron saint of Tunis named Sidi Ali Azouz, whose body was laid to rest in a shrine here. The well preserved Zawiyya has a large dome finely coated with deep green tile works of high taste.
