Zaouia of Sidi Abid El Ghariani

Zaweya of Sidi Abd El Ghariani is one of the important monumental places in El Qayrowan City that date back to the 14th Century. It locates in the center of the city few meters away from Rue Ali Belahoune. The mosque is highly admired for its style of decoration that is accentuated by the ornate woodcarving and stuccowork. The mosque is known in that name after Sidi El Ghariani who was the head of the ruling family of Kairowan from the 15th till the 19th Century. In one of the corners of the mosque stands the mausoleum of Hafsid Sultan Moulay Hassan who lived during the 16th Century. The interior of the tomb is handsomely decorated with beautiful arcades and stuccoworks over the ceiling.
