The capital of the Zaghouan Governorate, the city of Zaghouan lies in the northern half of Tunisia, on a low ridge of the Dorsale Mountains, at the foot of Jebel Zaghouan. The town is located around 100km due south of Tunis and around 50km inland (west) from the Gulf of Hammamet. It is renowned for its graceful mild climate and it green scenery. During the reign of the Roman emperor Hadrian, the city was administering one of the most important water resources for Carthage since it supplied it with cold water via a 132km-long aqueduct.
