Zaghouan

Zaghouan Governorate, in north-eastern Tunisia, is one of the twenty-four governorates (provinces) of Tunisia and stretches over 2,768 km². The governorate lies between the governorates of the Northeast, the northwest and the centre. It is bounded by the governorates of Ben Arous, Manouba and Ariana to the north, those of Sousse and Kairouan to the south and those of Siliana and Béja to the east. It has an estimated population of 161,000 (2004 census). Its capital city, Zaghouan, is renowned for its graceful mild climate and it green scenery. The governorate's main activity is agriculture and industry. Among the important cities and towns enclosed within its boundaries are: El Fahs, Djebel Oust, Bir Mcherga, Nadhour, and Zriba.
