US War Cemetery

The US War Cemetery lies roughly in Roosevelt Street, 750m along the road from the cisterns in Carthage. The cemetery encloses the graves of around 2840 American soldiers, sailors and coast guardsmen killed here in their fight against German General Rommel’s Afrika Corps during WWII. In addition to the graves, there is a Wall of Remembrance dedicated to other 3724 American warriors whose bodies were never found. The site appears as a neat forest of white crosses marked with serenity and dignified simplicity.
