The capital of the Tataouine Governorate, the modern city of Tataouine boasts being a friendly and lively place. You will notice the houses here are "cave dwellings" which make them cool and well protected. The style with which the town's underground homes are designed attracted George Lucas, a film maker, to take some shots of Star Wars at the site. Though lacking many attractions, the place is perfect for a relaxing experience. The city gets livelier at Monday and Thursday, when the streets become busy at the weekly souqs (markets). Do not leave before tasting the local patisserie (corne de gazelle) covered chopped nuts and soaked in honey.
