Out in the middle of nowhere on the plains 107km southwest of Kairouan and 38km east of Kasserine, Sbeitla is home to the evocative ancient town of Sufetula, famous for its re­markably preserved Roman temples. The drab modern town has very little going for it except for one really first-rate budget hotel.
