SPANISH FORT

The Spanish Fort is one of the most important sites in Bizerte. It was constructed in the period from 1570 till 1573 under the command of Euli Ali, The military leader of Algiers, after the conquest of Spanish forces. The fort protects the northern side of the city. Although some parts of it have badly affected by the passage of time, the great walls of the fort and the citadel still exist as agreat example for the magnificent Turkish architectural style. The Spanish Fort is also surrounded by a number of worth seeing places including: Youssef Bey Fountain, Bizerte Great Mosque, and modern cement amphitheatre.
