Roman Pools



Directly beside the southern end of ave Habib Bourguiba stand the twin Roman pools that are considered the most remarkable tourist attraction in the town. Next to the pools one can see the Turkish Bey's Palace that is highly adorned with the its unique arches borne on Columns with Antique Capitals. These twin Roman Pools (Piscines Romaines) date back to the Roman period. It consists of two 4 meters/13ft deep pools linked by a small tunnel and fed by thermal springs at a temperature of 25°C/77°F. Some of the stone blocks used in the construction of the pools are decorated with beautiful inscriptions form the Roman times. The visitor of the pools would certainly find groups of children diving there and entertaining themselves in a funny and childish way.
