Pupput
One of the places that tell of the Roman long history on the Tunisian land is the ancient site of Puppet, 6.5km southwest of the Hammamet town centre. It once served as a Punic settlement and a staging post on the Carthage-Hadrumetum (Sousse) ancient Roman road. It became a Roman colony in 2nd century. Walking all through the site, you will find some Byzantine and Roman remains scattered here and there. Among the most significant partly survived monuments there is the House of Figured Peristyle which dates to the 5th century. There are some columns and floors tiled with mosaics visible nearby. The walls are ornamented with Byzantine tomb mosaics.
