Neapolis



The ancient seaside site of Neapolis recounts the long history that goes deep back into history. Its name means the 'New City' in Greek and it lies about 1.5km southwest of the centre of Nabeul. The impressive place, once Punic settlement, was established in the 5th century BC. In 310 BC, the site was assaulted by Agathocles and later destroyed during the Third Punic War. When the Romans came, they worked on rebuilding it as a Roman town. It is an unfortunate shame that until recent generations' people did not appreciate such history in Tunisia.
