Museum of Popular Arts & Traditions
The Museum of Popular Arts and Traditions or Houmt Souq Museum is one of the tourist attractions in the city. It was constructed in the location that was once occupied with the Zawiya of Sidi Zitouni and Sidi Ameur, about 200m from the center of the town. This is the reason why the interior part of the museum is surmounted with a dome with ornate lattice work around its lower base.
The importance of Houmt Souq Museum is attributed to the value of the pieces and exhibits in it. It encloses a must seeing collection of traditional costumes highlighting the tradition and costumes of Djerba throughout history. In one of the halls of the museum, one can find some pottery jars with variable shapes and sizes and some jewelry pieces labeled in Arabic and English.
