Medina
Another must-stop attraction in Sousse is the city's medina which encloses numerous religious and historical monuments that tell of the city's long history. You can get there through place des Martyrs. Look at the 2.25km-high walls of the old medina and get a view of how the Aghlabids fortified the place with solid square turrets in AD 859. The walls were laid on the foundations of the city's original Byzantine walls. Enclosed within these walls are 24 mosques (12 for men and 12 for women) among other numerous significant monuments. It is said that the area was established after the Allied destroyed some parts of the wall in 1943.
