Kerkennah Islands
A place out of this world, the Kerkennah Islands in the Gulf of Gabes are all one with beauty and tranquility. This cluster of nine islands is located 25km east of Sfax and covers an area of 160 km2 with a population of 14,400 (2006 statistics). The archipelago's two major islands are Chergui (right) and Gharbi (left); both connected by a causeway. The islands are generally warm and dry, with strong prevailing winds. All the islands get the different services needed from the small administrative town of Remla. The islands at first sight seem untouched with modernization and some very traditional things can be seen at the arena.
