House of the Sphinx

House of the Sphinx is located in the center of the city of Kerkouane. The monument comprises an impressive bathroom with a double bath, ten rooms and an open court. The court contains an oven as well as a handmill for grinding grains. One of the rooms was used as a workshop for blowing glass. Archeologists found a skull and an altar with a sphinx in a corner within a chapel. Some rooms are decorated with Dionysiac frieze and floored with white and blue mosaic. Found inside was a nursing bottle as well as pits with remains of sacrifices.
