Gightis
Gightis is an old port located 20km south of El-Jarf on the back road running from Medenine which does not contain many attractions for the visitor. It was originally a Phoenician port that was used during the Roman times to export gold, ivory and slaves which were being brought by caravans trading in such goods.
The site was discovered only in the 20th century and seems quite primitive. The old buildings which date from the 2nd century A.D. can be found around the ancient capital and forum. The area is a good place for relaxation and enjoying natural sceneries of palms and acacia trees spreading over the coast of Bou Grara gulf.
