Tourism in Genoese Fort

Tourism in Genoese Fort.
Genoese Fort is one of the magnificent structures that can be seen on the top of the hillside of Tabarka Island. It was constructed in the 16th century and then in 1940 it was made French as a part of their attempt for turning the island into a peninsula. In the period from 1541 till the mid the 18th century which was the middle of the Ottoman rule of Tunisia, the fort was used as a Christian stronghold. Nowadays, visitors of Tabarka Island should visit the fort to enjoy the panoramic view of the island and the sea. Unfortunately, entering the fort is not allowed currently because it is occupied by the Tunisian military. Moreover, the major part of the interior building is ruined currently and only a very small part is open for visitors and is occupied with a museum for mosaic works.
