El Hissar Tower
Another most significant monument that tells of the history of Kerkennah Islands is Borj el- Hissar which was erected along the coastline overlooking a wonderful setting. Originally a Roman fort, this seriously damaged structure dates back almost 1000 years, yet the Spanish rebuilt it in the 16th century. Still ornamented with traces of Roman mosaics, the ruins of the fortress are scattered all over the place to some had even dropped into the sea. To get to the place, follow the signs south from the hotels at Sidi Frej then walk for some 35 minutes.
