Dougga Crypt

At the base of the Temple of Saturn in Dougga, Claude Poinssot discovered an aisled crypt in 1955. There, he found a head of a statue of god Jupiter, which may indicate that the place dates from the period of Christianity’s triumph over the old religions or that the crypt once served as a church. Other experts suggest that the building was set at the same time in which the Byzantine Fort was built.
