Dar Othman

In el-M'Bazz Street in Medina lies the 17th-century Dar Othman which was erected by Othman Dey, a Governor of Tunis, in roughly 1650 AD. The mansion's owner was renowned for his being a wealthy pirate who enjoyed a highly respected political position. His palace shows the kind of luxurious life he had led and this finds its echo in the building's lavish style of architecture and its excessively decorated façade. A number of rooms are now occupied by the Conservation de la Medina organization. Visitors can enjoy the courtyards and the interior garden which was planted in 1936.
