DOUIRET
Like Chenini, Douiret is an old village cut out of the hillside, and follows the mountain for about a kilometer. It lies 9km south of Tataouine on the road to Remada. The village is almost abandoned with only 5 families with 20-30 members (1850 statistics) living there. The residents earn their living from the pressing olives from which they get their main income.
The village is only one street and all houses are cut out in the hillside, except at the centre, where the white, simple, and beautiful mosque stands out. Most astonishing of the village's houses is the ornamented carved doorways. Tourists are usually taken with the Berber designs painted on the walls of the locals' houses.
