Carthage
Carthage is a city of great history and bright future standing about 15km to the north of Tunis, the current Capital of Tunisia, on the Gulf of Tunis. The name of Carthage is mainly derived from the word'' Kart Hadaght'' which means the New City. This name was given to that area by its original constructors, the Phoenicians in the 9th Century BC.
For a long period in the past, Carthage was regarded as the capital of Tunis and the main center for trade and shipping on the Mediterranean Sea. During the Roman Rule it was regarded as the second major city after Alexandria of Egypt and a large number of buildings have been constructed there.
