Antonine Baths
The enchanting Antonine Baths on the breathtaking seaside of Carthage seductively stretches near the Roman villas. The construction of this fabulous bath complex was initiated by Emperor Hadrian and its last block was installed in the 2nd century. The largest outside Rome, the complex was provided with water through the Zaghouan aqueduct. Remains only in outline, the huge bath complex encloses a caldarium (hot room), a number of saunas, a tepidarium (warm room), a massive pillared frigidarium (cold room) at the centre, a number of gymnasiums and a swimming pool. There is a semi-circular construction with around 80 seats once served as communal latrines.
