Kairouan

Kairouan Governorate is an inland province located in the centre of Tunisia and surrounded by the governorates of Zaghouan to the north, of Sidi Bou Zid and Siliana to the west, of Sfax to the south and by Sousse and Mahdia to the east. The governorate covers an area of 6,712 km² with a population of 546,209 (according to 2004 statistics). About 85% of the whole inhabitants are centralized in al qayrawan city.
