Carthage's importance made it the center for hosting a large number of annual national and internaional festivals . In July and August the open-air Roman Theatre in Carthage hosts the International Festival of Carthage that gathers a large number of people with internationally renowned music and dance .
One of the most remarkable events that took place in the city recently is 2008 biennial Carthage International Film Festival that pays special attention for Middle Eastern and African cinema .
