Along the shoreline from the Great Mosque all the way to Cap D'Afrique stand the remains of the
Fatimid
Fortification as a sign for the great history of
El Mahdeya
City . There are only few remains of the huge fort that was once surrounding the whole city to protect it from any military attack from the sea . The only remaining parts are some crumbling pillars that were once standing next to the entrance of the harbor . In Borj El Kabir , there is an artistic representation of the old Fatimid Fortification of El Mahdeya before its destruction .
