The
Arch of Septimius Severus
is one of the two triumphal arches in Dougga which dates from 205 AD . The building lies at the northeast end of the Roman Forum . Constructed from white marble , the arch was built to commemorate the Parthian victories which the first African-born Emperor Septimius Severus together with his sons (Caracalla and Geta) had been achieved . The Emperor had launched two military campaigns against the Parthians in 194/195 and 197-199 AD . The building has three archways resting on piers . Before each pier , stands a composite column on a pedestal . Both of the Emperor's two sons reigned simultaneously after his death . When a series of serious problems rose , Caracalla killed Geta and erased his brother's images and inscriptions that were carved on the Arch of Septimius Severus .
