Al Qasrayn City

Al Qasrayn City is the capital city of Al-qasrayn governorate . It is situated below Jebel Ech Chambi , Tunisia's highest mountain , and is inhabited by 76 , 243 people according to 2004 statistics . The economy of al-qasrayn depends on different activities , like olive cultivation , oil production , growing of grain , raising of sheep and cattle in addition of the city being a market centre . The city is also very famous for the growing of esparto grass , which is grey-green grass growing up in harsh conditions , as well as production of high quality paper pulp . Esparto grass is a popular water-saving garden plant found in some parts of the world . In the ancient times , it was used for many industries , while nowadays , it is mostly used commercially . The plant is exploited primarily for the production of high-quality book-paper . It is no wonder then that large areas of the countryside around Kasserine and Sbeitla are devoted to this grass cultivation . In spite of esparto grass being a reward for the city's economy , the emission of chlorine from the cellulose factory there causes some pollution to the environment . Concerning the weather of Al-Qasrayn , it is so cold in the winter that one should wear warm clothing .

/> The main square in the city is called place de I'Independance and is found on ave Habib Bourguiba . There is bus and louage station located 5km to the east of place de I'independence where there are bus services available from and to many cities and governorates . The SNTRI buses run from and to Tunis . The Societe Regionale de Transport de Kasserine (SRTK) also provides services to Gabes , Gafsa , Haidra , Kairouan , Le Kef , Sbeitla , Sfax , Sousse and Thala in different times with different price-rates as some buses running twice per day , four per day and others five per day , putting into consideration how far the destinations are . Red louages also go to different destinations around the whole country .

Al Qasrayn Governorate is remarkable for the existence of Jebel Chambi , the highest mountain in Tunisia . It is located 15km to the west of Qasrayn city and its height is 1544m . Also worth mentioning is that the mountain is covered with snow in winter season . In spite of these hard conditions , the park has a plenty of flourished trees like Phoenician juniper , Aleppo pines and holm oaks . It also has a very resourceful wildlife as there are many wild boars , endangered mountain
gazelles , striped hyenas , foxes , Barbary partridges and Barbary sheep . This natural park has been recognized as a nature reserve in 1977 . The Pare National du jebel chambi , as known in French , has seen a regeneration of plant life since it received protected status . If you would like to go there , you can only go through a rough track , suitable for 4WD vehicles . After arriving , a trail leads the visitors to the summit , where there is a metal crescent erected by Tunisian boy scouts shortly after independence .

Concerning eateries , there are many restaurants available in the city to the east of place de L'independence which introduce chick¬ens roasting . For breakfast meals , the patisserie in the southeast corner of place de I'independence provides the semolina porridge with halvah and crushed pistachios . Piueria al-Amir al-Saghir also offers multiple options of food like hamburgers , crepes and paninis , and is located 300m west of place de l'Independance in the Complexe Commer¬cial building . The food market can also be found a few hun¬dred meters east of place de I'Independance , just off the main road .
