About Qalibiyah
Kelibia is a city of great history that was used as a Berber settlement until the Carthaginian's conquest of the region . It was known as Aspis which means the shield; because of its defensive shape . It remained one of the major Tunisian cities till the 11th century and then it was destroyed on the hands of the Sicilian pirate attacks . Transportation to and from the city is available mainly from the buses and louages station located at ave Ali Belhouane . Buses run to Tunis (2 , 1/4 hours , hourly) , Nabeul (1 , 1/4 hours , hourly) and El-Haouaria (40 minutes , hourly) . Buses to further destinations run only once per day and go to After arriving to the bus and louage station which is located on ave Ali Belhouane , you can head to the town centre on the east of the station , around the intersection of rue Ibn Khaldoun and ave Habib Bourguiba . There is also a supermarket on rue Ibn Khaldoun , while the port and the nearby fort of the town are located 2km east of the centre on ave des Martyrs . There are some good places to eat in including Petit Paris restaurant (on rue Petit Paris) which overlooks the sea and offers different types of snacks , Pension Anis (on ave Erriadh) which offers wide selections of seafood dishes , Le Goeland (Port de Kelibia) overlooking the sea and offers many seafood and pizzas , as well as others . For cafes and drinking places there are Cafe Sidi el-Bahri (on the port) which is particularly popular with a wonderful seating on a rocky beach , Cafe el-Borj which is a small domed place just below the fort and is similarly popular . In these cafés , you can order mint tea , coffee or Shesha (water pipe) . |
